- Updated the Resources Archive page. Mostly organized the sections better so it’s easier to navigate.
- Updated the Free Speech Webring. Removed the news announcement and changed the wording on some buttons and headings.
- Edited my ‘Web Revival: Getting Started’ post to match the rest of the site theme. Also fixed some of the formatting to be more consistent, and added an MMM page example and screenshot under the Web Building for Beginners section.
- Finally started working on the Treehouse. It’s going to be a sort of private social network for friends and family of mine, if they want to join. It will also have website building tools so they can create their own pages.
- There are probably a few other small things I’ve done around the site that I’m forgetting. xD It’s been awhile.
Overall it’s been a slow few months. There’s a lot I want to do but just haven’t had the energy to do it due to moving complications. We went several weeks without internet twice and it’s just been a complete headache. Finally getting settled though so hoping to get more done around here over the summer. π I’m still alive and well and the webrings are still active, being maintained and accepting new members.
In regards to the web cafe, I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to do with it yet or if I’m still going to do it. I have some great ideas for one but I’m not sure if I want to manage anything additional. I think I want to focus more on the Treehouse and eventually expanding it as I advance in web development. Eventually I’d really like to make a social platform similar to what Piczo was. My dream is to see more people move away from corrupt big tech social platforms and realize the freedom and creativity that is the small/indie web and decentralization, and in order to do that I think we need solutions that the average web user can use. Drag and drop web builders are a great solution to that, combined with social aspects I think and options to decentralize from the platform if users prefer. I don’t want to see this movement limited to those who are more techy or only those who know how to code. I want to see this kind of digital liberation be available to everyone of any skill level. I want it to be easy enough for your 80 year old grandmother to join and figure it out. I’d also love to see RSS be more utilized, known, and expanded on so people can use it more easily.
So that’s where I’m at with that right now. It’s a project that will definitely take years to develop as I first need to develop my own skills and programming knowledge to start creating it, and then there’s the actual creation process itself that will take time. But as for internet cafes, there are already some really great ones out there. Agora Road being one I highly endorse. I’ve felt really at home there.
I hope everyone’s having a wonderful summer!
