After not really finding anything on Facebook in regards to the Small Web/Indie Web/Personal Web/Old Web/Web Revival, etc. I feel like it’s time a space was made on mainstream social media that talks about this movement so it can be more easily discovered.
The Small Web is all about creativity, privacy, and individuality, which is why a lot of us are against big tech platforms and leave to come here – but here’s the truth: the Small Web / Indie Web / Personal Web / Old Web / Web Revival (whatever term you prefer to refer to it by) won’t effectively grow if we keep it to ourselves. We have to talk about it and share it—especially on the big platforms where the majority of people spend most of their time because that is the only way most people will ever discover it. If there isn’t a space it can be discovered by people on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, how will others know it’s even an option? The unfortunate reality is that the tech giants control a lot of the landscape on the web that people tend to occupy, which is why we should use those spaces to amplify this movement and encourage others to create their own personal corners of the internet.
I’ve created a Facebook page and Facebook group for anyone who wants to join and share your own or other people’s personal sites across the Small Web. I don’t use IG or Twitter/X really so if anyone wants to start something up on other platforms, let me know and we can affiliate across platforms!
The group allows for anonymous posts, so if you want to share your site anonymously there, you can. 🙂 If you want to be an active participant in the group as well, Facebook now allows for making additional profiles under the same account, making it easy to create throw away accounts using pseudonyms for commenting and other interactive purposes if you’d like to preserve your anonymity. Consider liking, following, and sharing with your friends so more people have the opportunity to discover this movement and perhaps feel inspired to create spaces of their own outside of these corporate platforms. ♥
I will be posting to the group each day featuring different websites I think are cool and resourceful across the small web. As people join the group, I’ll also be showcasing pages people share there on the Facebook page. 🙂
