New layout/theme for the holiday season. 🎅🏻 Still need to test if everything is mobile responsive.
Redesigned the top menu.
Fixed a few broken links throughout the site.
Cleaned up some code.
Implemented ActivityPub. Still have some bugs to work out, but it is live.
Once it is fully functional, I will be deleting most of my Fedi accounts as I want to be the host of the majority of my social content and having other accounts will just end up being redundant.
I am also looking to add interactive photo feeds in the near future that function similarly to Instagram. Visitors can like, comment, etc. all from my website without having to register for any accounts. Once this is done, I will be deleting my pixelfed accounts and possibly all my Instagram content, because again, I want to host and be the sole owner of all my content. I’ll be keeping around very few big tech social media accounts. I’ve already left Twitter/X and have no intentions to go back, but I will be keeping around Instagram and Facebook as I feel it’s important to remain tethered for now, if for no other reason than I want other people to discover the small web through me when I use it. I’ve been contemplating deleting my Google account as well for awhile now. Might end up doing that soon. I truly hate Google. Their only useful function I’d have to find a workaround for are their recaptcha system. It’s useful against bots but I’d really prefer to have nothing to do with Google if I can help it. Purging big tech is really a process.
Added the Friends plugin so other WordPress users on the small/indie web can add me. Still debating if I want to keep it or not, but it makes a good RSS feed.
At the moment, my email system does not work, due to migrating my site to a VPS. So any emails sent to me from my website are not coming through right now, FYI. This will be fixed probably tomorrow evening once I get home from work.
Planning to implement lots of changes to my site’s Book Nook section in the near future. Currently it’s just showing my blog posts in that category, but I intend to design an entire page that will include more. Should have that done within the next week or so. Might possibly get a start on it tomorrow as well. We’ll see.
